As an enterprise architect, I have seen firsthand the challenges that large organisations face when it comes to managing their enterprise architecture. With so many moving parts and stakeholders involved, it can be difficult to ensure that the enterprise architecture is aligned with the organisation's business goals and strategies. This is where enterprise architecture governance comes in.
In this series of articles, I will be exploring the different aspects of enterprise architecture governance and why it is so important for large organisations. In this first article, I will provide an overview of what enterprise architecture governance is and why it is necessary.
Enterprise architecture governance is the practice of managing and evolving an organisation's enterprise architecture to ensure that it is aligned with the organisation's business goals and strategies. It involves establishing processes, procedures, and policies for managing the enterprise architecture, defining and enforcing standards for enterprise architecture artefacts, developing and maintaining an enterprise architecture roadmap, and monitoring and measuring the effectiveness of the enterprise architecture.
Without enterprise architecture governance, large organisations run the risk of having an enterprise architecture that is fragmented, inconsistent, and out of date. This can lead to inefficiencies, redundancies, and missed opportunities to deliver business value.
In the next article, I will explore the first aspect of enterprise architecture governance: establishing an enterprise architecture governance framework.
